Abstract
The primary mental health worker roie (PMHW) was first
suggested by the Health Advisory Service report 'Together
we Stand'. The four-tier model of service provision places
the PMHW role at the interface between tier 1 (primary care
professionals) and tiers 2/3 (specialist Child and adolescent mental health services). These recommendations were also confirmed by report from the House of Commons Health Committee. The Mental Health Foundation and the Audit Commission,' which emphasised the need for more effective interagency collaboration in the provision
of child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS), between primary care and specialist CAMHS. Such policies have led to the development and expansion of the PMHW post in CAMHS nationally.
