Abstract

Chris Dunne and Phil Eastwood were invited by Prof. Klaus Pollmeier, to create a new body of print based work in collaboration with a group of fifteen postgraduate design students, from Anhalt University, Dessau, Germany. The event took place between the 21st - 23rd May 2013. It took the form of a series of lectures, an extended performance, an exhibition of work and a two volume limited edition publication with an accompanying pamphlet. Performance Print Situation No. 5 continues a series of public events designed to encourage the use of a range of alternative creative working methods in the rapid production of an evolving library of limited edition handmade publications, post haste. Graphic design, illustration, typography and fine art collide through the use of text and image. Hand-made limited edition publications evolve through creative collaborations using agitprop guerrilla design techniques. The event has generated a substantial archive of material that is being collated into a publicly accessible research resource. The primary focus of activities was the generation of a substantial quantity of high quality visual material used in the creation/design of a two volume limited edition publication and accompanying pamphlet – ISBN pending. A significant outcome from the success of the activities staged in Dessau, has been a cultural cross fertilisation via initiated collaboration with designers from China, Mexico, Pakistan, Russia, Georgia, Slovakia and Germany. The success of the event has resulted in an extended invitation for Dunne and Eastwood to return for a future performance/exhibition/event. Anhalt University is a prestigious institution located in the campus of the world recognised iconic Dessau Bauhaus. It provides a continuum of high quality European art and design practice that supports undergraduate and postgraduate education.
