Abstract
The problem is defined as work towards the construction of a system capable of perception. Some fundamental issues of perception are considered. The columnar and macro structures of the human neocortex are reviewed, and a theory of perception built around them. The model makes use of temporal information in neural signals and uses observations from human perceptual performance.
