Abstract

A simple and effective technique for estimating a network path's bottleneck bandwidth is presented. The simplicity of the technique, in terms of data and computation requirements, indicates its potential to be incorporated into network applications that would benefit from a fast estimate of bottleneck bandwidth. Its performance is tested for various network conditions using a simulator and the results are compared to the performance of existing techniques.
