Abstract
Malaysia's great history has been largely dictated by its natural resources: tin and rubber attracted colonialisation and both oil and natural gas have fuelled the country's economic growth since independence. But the future for these resources is in jeopardy either becoause they are depleting, in the latter cases, or because the world market for them will decline, in the former cases. The decline of these resources poses an uncertain future for the country.
