Abstract
Armchair Anarchy is a one–off coptic bound artists’ book that contains six individual parazines that collectively present a typographic poem in the form of soundbites from a disparate group of storytellers, musicians, fictional TV characters and everyday life in an attempt to uncover profound, absurd and comical questions about our existence and its history.
| Additional Information: | In 2006 GRRR's artists’ book Armchair Anarchy was selected and constructed for inclusion in the exhibition Sitting Room, currated by Tom Sowden and Lucy May Schofield. The setting is a carefully re-created Sitting Room complete with comfortable armchairs, standard lamp, wallpaper, coffee table and gramophone, inviting visitors to peruse a unique display of artist’s books. Within this familiar domestic scene, emphasis is placed upon the engagement between the book and the reader. Visitors are encouraged to choose an artist’s book from the bookcase, make themselves at home in the sitting room and enjoy this rare opportunity to handle and interact with the limited edition artists-made book works. The exhibition toured internationally visiting: Alsager Arts Centre, Alsager (4th Dec 2006 – 26th Jan 2007); Permanent Gallery, Brighton (1st – 18th Feb 2007); Winchester Gallery, Winchester (6th July – 2nd Aug 2007); Artist’s Book Exhibition Area, UWE, Bristol (21st Aug – 21st Sep 2007); AKI, The Enschede Academy of Visual Arts, The Netherlands (10th Oct – 9th Nov 2007); Ruskin Gallery, Cambridge (13th Dec 2007 – 2nd Jan 2008); K Gallery, Alameda, California, USA (7th March – 27th April 2008); Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Mexico City, Mexico (26th May – 7th July 2008). |
