Abstract

• This report represents an evaluation of the Lincolnshire County Sport partnership’s ‘Wheelchair Sport Project’, which was delivered from 2009 until July 2012. The project involved a reverse-integration method of delivering wheelchair basketball sessions to schools in the Lincolnshire area for a period of 12 weeks. Trained coaches delivered sessions during normal timetabled PE sessions for around 50 pupils per school per 12-week period, following which time, equipment and coaches moved to other schools in the area.

• This report presents interview and observation evidence gained from a school based case study and interviews from stakeholders in the programme. Data was used to assess whether the intervention increased participation in wheelchair basketball in Lincolnshire, reduced inequality through participation in sport, improved integration between those with and without a disability, and improved the physical and mental well-being and quality of life of participants. Finally, data was used to assess whether the intervention encouraged perceptual changes among participants regarding disability sport.
