Abstract
Untitled 1 is a 40cm x 30cm acrylic painting exhibited as part of the 2010 Lynn Painter-Stainers Prize. The painting is the first in a series that investigates our understanding of the contemporary English village, village community and social class. The series uses the seemingly parochial subject matter of a fictional village to engage with broader issues. This particular painting is concerned with the demonstrating the passing of time in a single image as well as exploring the fractured narratives that can be observed at the periphery of an English village.
The artefact was exhibited alongside 67 other paintings. The selectors were Graham Crowley, Sarah Myerscough, Humphrey Ocean RA and Daphne Todd. The exhibition was reviewed in the national press.
Untitled 1 is included in a catalogue. The exhibition took place at two venues in London (15th November – 26th November 2010 Painters Hall, London and 29th November – 3rd December 2010 W.H. Patterson Gallery, London)
