Abstract
In 1952 Theatre Workshop had a decision to make: where should the company be based? Eventually the operation was moved to Stratford East, London but East Kilbride, Scotland was suggested as a suitable permanent home. This was emblematic of broader connections between Theatre Workshop (specifically their chief playwright and co-founder, Ewan MacColl) and Scotland. This paper aims to understand and analyse the connections between the company, the playwright and the Scottish cultural scene.
