Abstract

Transnational Education (TNE) refers to programmes offered in Romania by UK universities in conjunction with a local Romanian partner. According to the British Council’s website there are several Romanian-UK TNE partnerships, however as far as the authors are aware none is developed with a social mission aimed at the development of the local communities - people and places.
The RISE (Research Innovation Sustainability Excellency in Education) social initiative aims to create a micro-cosmos of development in Romania, aimed at generating economic growth in Transylvania, through excellency in educational projects, developing higher skills for people, research projects to stimulate practical and applicable knowledge, business connections, trade and sector linkage. These are the reasons why a common initiative has emerged between Lincoln and the regions from the north-west part of Romania (Bihor, and Cluj, and willing to expand to other parts – e.g., Timisoara) bridged by public and private entities, including the University of Lincoln (UoL) and EduBiz, Romanian educational and social enterprise, aiming at bridging stakeholders, universities, companies, researchers to generate sustainable growth.
Georgiana and Teodora started their joint work in a post-Brexit environment supporting the UoL leadership team to develop one of the University of Lincoln’s strategic objectives as a civic university.
During the workshop, the two researchers are aiming to present the transnational enterprise initiative developed by elaborating on the partnership established, the research pillars identified, lessons learned and possible collaborations with other Romanian institutions.
Workshop participants will be actively engaged in the presentation with the aim of growing the network of Romanian partners from both public and private entities.
