Abstract

Introduction: Psychological flexibility is a construct which is characterized by value-based living and acceptance of uncomfortable thoughts and emotions. In addition to being a key concept in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, it was shown to be in important predictor of mental health and well-being. Common questionnaires measuring psychological flexibility mostly do not include its multifactorial structure, thus being criticized for not representing the whole concept of psychological flexibility. Methods: In this study, the validity of the German version of the CompACT-8, a short form of the CompACT, was investigated. 472 subjects from the general population could be included in the analysis. Psychometric properties, reliability, and validity were determined. Results: The results show a reliable and valid measurement instrument. The three-factorial structure could be confirmed. Conclusion: The German CompACT-8 shows to adequately measure psychological flexibility.
