Abstract
Statistics reveal Germany to be a prodigious outbound tourism market, generating a volume of outbound visitor movements to rival those of the United States, whilst possessing a much smaller population. This predilection to take holidays cannot be accounted for purely in terms of wealth generated by a successful economy: Germans do like holidays, very much. A qualitative reflection explored the possible reasons for the German liking for tourism.
