Abstract

Accessible design benefits everyone, it is easier to understand, more organised, and allows you to reach a much wider audience. With the changes and updates to legislation around web content, we felt a moral, legal and pedagogical driver for change.

A strategy, built around four pillars, was enacted to bring about change. We implemented an institution-wide strategy with buy-in from senior leadership, we developed training and support to provide awareness and knowledge, we established partnerships that brought people together with different strengths and a shared purpose, and we embedded tools and templates within our VLE (Virtual Learning Environment) to enable all staff to deliver an inclusive curriculum.

This session will explore the journey undertaken to elevate the digital accessibility across the institution, and promote a culture of inclusivity by affording staff and students with the skills, knowledge and tools required to be successful in this approach. Drawing on data, we reflect on the impact of this work and the continual improvement plan in place to further strive for a fully inclusive, digitally enhanced learning environment.

Participants will gain an institutional oversight view of the strategy’s implementation, and on the ground development and improvement that has helped transform our digital estate.
