Abstract

The Battle of Winceby was a defining moment both for Oliver Cromwell and the parliamentarian cause. It was at Winceby that Cromwell arguably came closest to being killed in battle. It was also at Winceby that Cromwell and Sir Thomas Fairfax fought alongside one another for the first time. More broadly, this battle in a field in Lincolnshire had significant repercussions for the course of the civil wars across Britain.
