Abstract
The correlation between gacaca (justice in the grass) and peace education narrates a particular local approach to social bonding and restoration between previously aggrieved parties as a durational and iterative process post-conflict. In this article, I explore the role of art and performance during the transitional justice system of gacaca in Rwanda (2004-12) and the durational elements of reconciliation and justice as they pertain to current art-based peacebuilding initiatives. I argue that peace education is an ongoing component of transitional justice and that art-based research methods can be used as a significant contributor to peacebuilding.
