Abstract

This chapter briefly outlines some methods used in quantitative research and discusses the issues to be considered when critically appraising quantitative literature.

By the end of the chapter you will be able to:
• provide an overview of quantitative research approaches;
• identify the key areas for consideration when critically appraising quantitative literature;
• discuss different sampling strategies and methods of analysis used in quantitative research;
• debate issues of reliability and validity.
