Abstract
Artists' Book – ‘Hymn’, by Wassily Kandinsky. Illustrated by Jantze Holmes. Translated from the German by Ken Cockburn. Typography by Barrie Tullett.
Hymn is taken from Wassily Kandinsky’s book of poetry ‘Sounds (Klänge)’, written in Russian, but translated into German and originally published in 1913. ‘Klänge’ is widely considered to be the first true Artists’ Book.
The illustrations were created with cut paper mono-prints, individually inked, composed, and printed for the original artworks.
