Abstract
The Creature Department is a children's fantasy novel about Elliot and Leslie, two friends who discover the world's strangest inventions are created by a team of unusual engineers led by Elliot's uncle. When the department—and the creatures who work there—are threatened, it's up to Elliot and Leslie to save the day. This book is a collaboration between the author, Penguin Random House, and the special effects firm, Framestore; it was an early experiment in writing "transmedia fiction" featuring the real-time CGI animation of characters, who appeared at promotional events such as the U.S. Book Show.
