Abstract
A collaborative artists' book project by Angie Butler and Natalie McGrorty; the project aims to “re-assemble” some of the “inventory” of the reading material that was lost in the car bombing of al-Mutanabbi Street by creating work that holds both “memory and future,” exactly what was lost that day. Each artist involved in the collaboration is supplied with the name of an individual who who was killed in the 2007 bombing of Mutanabbi Street and to whom their work will be dedicated.
The exhibition, and many associated book arts events associated with Mutanabbi Street will run from mid January 2013, to mid May 2013, at the John Rylands Library, Manchester, UK. Locations and associated events are being scheduled in the UK, US and across the globe.
The original artworks from the book will be auctioned off at the event on 5 March with all monies raised to go to Medicins San Fontiers.
Additional Information: | My contribution to the overall book is a single image and photograph that responds to a theme set by the originators of the project. 26 artists were invited to contribute - one for each of the 26 people killed on Mutanabbi Street |
