Abstract
Discusses Tennyson's tours to Cornwall in 1848 and 1860 and the sense in which he conducted research towards this major Arthurian poem, Idylls of the King. The chapter contrasts the state of Tennyson's career in each tour and argues that the relative seclusion and privacy of his 1848 tours contrasts dramatically with his experience in 1860 where he had to avoid admirers.
