Abstract
Product Development in the Socio-sphere also referred to as Social Product Development, can generally be described as the use of social computing technologies, tools, and media, influencing the product lifecycle at any stage through the use of a defined and qualified crowd. With the Internet and Social Networking Applications as its backbone, it enables globally distributed collaborating individuals or teams to participate in certain aspects of the product development processes and achieve results much faster than in traditional settings.
The purpose of this book is to provide decision makers in industry, practicing engineers, researchers, and educators an overview of game-changing paradigms related to creating breakthrough innovations in a globalized, distributed, and interconnected world. The topics covered range from the technological edge of Social Product Development, to related shifts in the workforce, associated new business models, and industrial implementation strategies.
