Abstract

Since the invention of photography and consequently cinema, the camera has been used to capture or document reality; actual events that happened at that moment in time, however banal. The author is developing a new interactive documentary project exploring opportunities for participation and collaboration. The project is currently at the proof of concept stage, and is being discussed as a work in progress, exploring the impact of camera phones and the potential that these devices, the web and social media may offer for the democratization of documentary production.
