Abstract

In 2019 the National Centre for Rural Health and Care (NCRHC) supported three small action research projects relating to workforce challenges within health and care in rural settings:
• Community pharmacy intervention
• Recruiting and retaining GPs in rural practices
• Recruitment and retention of staff in rural dispensing practices
This report introduces the projects and presents the findings and lessons learned. These are set out in full for two of the projects, the community pharmacy intervention and recruiting and retaining GPs in rural practices. The third project, looking at the recruitment and retention of staff in rural dispensing practices, has experienced delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the background and methodology for this project are set out in this report, the findings and lessons learned will be included in an updated report, to follow.
