Abstract

Highlights:
• Embracing the idea of Students as Partners as a normal way of working in universities in relation to subject-based research and inquiry can enhance the student experience, help staff balance the different aspects of their jobs and solve problems for external clients.
• Subject-based research and inquiry can be undertaken by students at all levels but should always be embedded into their curriculum.
• Equality in collaboration is important as it leads to the formation of communities of practice between stakeholders that can continue outside of the original project. These communities are important in terms of creating social networks that create new knowledge or solve problems.
• Collaborative opportunities within the context of the Visitor Economy are abundant and can offer solutions to global, national, regional or local challenges.
