Abstract

River in Cappadocia (2.104), modern Terme Çayi in Turkey, rising in the coastal range of the ancient region of Pontus. Herodotus uses the Thermodon as a marker for the broadest point of the Euxine (Black) Sea (4.86) and places the renowned battle in which the Athenians overcame the Amazons there (4.110).
