Courtesan (hetaira) of Thracian origin. Herodotus reports that the third pyramid at Giza (that of Mycerinus) was attributed to Rhodopis, who was said to have built it with earnings from her work as a prostitute. Herodotus refuses to accept the story and brings evidence to his assessment: Rhodopis lived much later, during the reign of Amasis (2.134-35).
