People living in the central region of northern Asia Minor (BA 86). Croesus subjugated them (1.28), and, under the Achaemenids, Paphlagonia became a satrapy of the Persian Empire (3.90.2). The Paphlagonians formed a contingent in the Persian army of Xerxes in 480 B.C.E. (7.72).
