Abstract
This introductory chapter provides an account of recent developments within the field of Central Asian Studies, highlight the marked shift in research contributions from scholars in the field. The chapter gives a further overview of key themes in Central Asian studies including but not limited to nation-building, the state, informality, international relations, history and everyday lives. The chapter also provides the reader with an overview of the organisation of the book.
