Abstract

[Also published in an accompanying volume, 'Christian-Muslim Relations, Primary Sources, Vol 1'. Bloomsbury Academic.]

The two prolegomena translated here (from Latin to English) accompany, respectively, the twelfth-century English polymath Robert of Ketton's Chronica mendosa et ridiculosa Sarracenorum and Lex Mahumet pseudoprophete, this latter the first translation of the Qur'an into Latin, albeit the elevated, consciously complex, rather paraphrastic Latin of the twelfth century. These texts are rendered here in English for the first time, along with a brief contextual summary of their production, related manuscript tradition, and content.
