Abstract
The Bummock is the large part of an iceberg hidden beneath the surface of the sea. The exhibition at Backlit, Nottingham is the result of a residency that researched unseen parts of the Lace Archive as catalysts for the creation of new artworks. Three artists, Andrew Bracey, Danica Maier and Lucy Renton spent the last two and half years rummaging, exploring and making. The artworks created was shown alongside the archival material that was used as the starting point for the artists' research.
The exhibition was a accompanied by a number of events including a symposium featuring papers by Sian Vaughan, Amanda Briggs-Goode, Pennina Barnnett and Deborah Dean, and an artist-academic roundtable with Danica Maier, Andrew Bracey and Lucy Renton; as well as a Sound Transcription Workshop, An Artist's tour, Attention/Detail - Children’s workshop.
This exhibition forms part of a larger project Bummock: New Artistic Responses to Unseen parts of the Archive.
