Abstract
The intention of this paper is to explore and analyse how actor’s eye can be a major tool in developing his/her imagination in both training and performance. This enquiry is based on the acting devices and training methods of Kudiyattam which is the Sanskrit theatre from India with a continuous performance history of at least 2000 years. Some of my arguments will be inspired by certain aesthetic and philosophical concepts central to Indian thought and I will finally explain the connection between eyes, imagination and temporal experience of perception.
