Abstract

G.K Chesterton proposed that for artists this wellspring, or inner world, is particularly necessary. He said ‘there is at the back of every artists mind the sort of world he would wish to make or in which he would wish to wander.’ He rather beautifully described what I called furniture as ‘the strange fauna and flora of his owns secret planet'. I would argue this is ephemeral, vaguely defined world is more than just an artists’ conceptualisation of something internal, but also a safe world in which we can play out our own fears.'
