Abstract
‘Unruly’ is how several of the contributors to this volume describe the essay film form. Resistant to neat categorization, the essay film has long inhabited a between space: between truth and fiction, between representation and reflexivity, between argumentation and speculation. These are films that essay, that venture toward the visualization of social, cultural and political ideas, ideas that refuse simple reproduction on screen.
