Abstract
Much planning regarding practical work relates to getting pupils to do and observe things with objects and materials rather than on how pupils are to think about and learn from their actions and observations. This chapter considers the effectiveness of practical activities in school science and suggests the need for a greater emphasis on a ‘minds-on’ approach to practical work.
