Abstract

During the treatment of a painting by George Clausen, paintings conservator Rhiannon Clarricoates and art historian Professor Kenneth McConkey took the opportunity to identify the painting and to research the original circumstances surrounding the creation and the reception of the work. The collaboration between conservator and art historian resulted in a highly successful treatment, the discovery of the provenance of the painting, and a greater knowledge of Clausen's painting techniques, which this article outlines.
