Abstract

This book outlines key concepts and theoretical approaches that underpin the study of the policy process. It examines the exercise and distribution of power, and the ways in which power is central to our understanding of how policies are made and implemented. It covers topics including: the meaning and scope of public policy; the impact of multi-level governance; the idea of 'arm's-length' decision-making and implementation; and ways in which policy can be evaluated.
