Abstract
A previously unreported advantage of increased stall torque achieved from the application of a multilevel inverter, driving a brushless PM machine, is considered here. Experimental results highlight a 41% increase in stall torque with a prototype 5-level inverter. A new switching scheme is also considered to further increase available stall torque.
