Abstract

Much of traditional architecture in KwaZulu-Natal is ephemeral, with short lifespan determined by the needs of the homestead.

This paper discusses the potential for looking more closely at the ethnography of current groups living in the province in order to interpret the architectural elements in the archaeological record.
