Abstract

Architecturally the Boots site at Beeston is widely regarded as one of the most important industrial estates of the twentieth century. This tour will take in the key interwar buildings designed by Sir Owen Williams: the ’Wets’ Factory (D10), ‘Drys’ (D6) and the Fire Station (D34). It will also include a short stop at the 1937-8 Canteen building (D31) by Dowling and Tanner, and a visit to the Boots Archive to look at maps and documents related to the architectural history of the site. Finally, the tour would not be compete without a visit to the D90 Offices 1967-9 by Skidmore, Owings & Merril.
