Abstract

‘Be still’ is a composition for marimba and harp in ten separate fragments that come together to create a piece that may be interpreted as a disjointed whole, or in separate parts. This is the most extreme form of temporal fragmentation demonstrated in this research project. ‘Be still’ forms one piece in series of three fragmented, intimate chamber works, alongside ‘Be silent’ for solo piano and ‘In that solitude’ for violin and piano.
