Abstract

This chapter examines the assumptions that underpin the Ten Essential Shared Capabilities and explores how the capabilities can be applied to mental health practice. The authors have found that students and practitioners develop a greater understanding of the Ten Essential Shared Capabilities if they take the time to discuss them with their colleagues. This discussion and reflection also help people to consider how the ESC can then be transferred and translated into their daily practice with service users, carers and colleagues. © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
