Abstract

This chapter explores the concept of value through the relationship between critical pedagogy and participatory art in the context of higher education. This exploration is illustrated with reference to the Social Science Centre, Lincoln, a cooperative providing no-fee public higher education. The concept of value on which the Social Centre Centre, Lincoln is grounded: Karl Marx's labour theory of value, is counterposed to other liberal and aesthetic theories of value.
