Abstract

What motivates people to engage in offences relating to child sexual exploitation material? This presentation will talk through the application of the motivation-facilitation model to CSEM-related offences, including its expansion in order to capture the individual qualities of this offence typology.

Data has been collated through semi-structured interviews and psychometric/computerised assessments, and preliminary results will be presented. The application of this model will help assess which individuals present the highest risk of “crossing-over” from viewing (CSEM) to engagement in contact child sexual abuse.
