Abstract
This publication was made in conjunction with Greenpeace, Hungary, in order to raise awareness of the dumping of toxic waste at a disused aluminium factory on the banks of the Danube. The artwork features ten photographs presented alongside text plates of equal number, which list the extent of a contested licence issued by the Hungarian government. This licence allowed a company named as TATAI permission to dump 166 toxic wastes and 244 non toxic wastes into an already toxic and unsealed red mud pond, where the toxins mix unpredictably and flow into the river. The publication was originally dispatched to a number of key politicians, scientists and EU officials, who had some professional interest in the case. This protest coincided with Greenpeace's legal action against the licence. Some two years later, the EU commission ruled in favour of Greenpeace, agreeing that the TATAI licence was in contravention of EU law regarding the disposal of industrial wastes.
