Abstract
In 2011/12 non EU students accounted for 33.5% of the UK Higher Education sector’s income from tuition fees and education contracts, whilst the off campus expenditure of international students (EU and non-EU) was estimated at £4.9 billion. What is less known is the social impact and connections that it generates, what is the reality of the students ‘globalisation’ experience and networks, compared to the intentions and expectations? This paper explores qualitative research currently being undertaken at the University of Lincoln’s Business school to understand more about the dynamics of what constitutes the narrative of being an ‘international student’.
