Abstract

The deposition rates of sub-micron particles on ribbed surfaces as measured by Hahn, Stukel, Leong and Hopke are compared with an empirical formulation for the convective heat transfer over similar surfaces at comparable Reynolds numbers. The comparison is made on the basis of the accepted similarity between the mechanisms of particulate mass transfer and that of convective heat transfer. Although the correlations are shown to be favourable, caution is nevertheless advised when using this technique. © 1986.
