Abstract
An experimental study of the effects of non-Newtonian blood rheology in a large scale model of a distal anastomosis was presented. The flow rates assumed to take place in the body were derived from a biphasic flow cycle obtained by Doppler ultrasound measurements in the femoral artery. The steady flow rate range was determined by the mean and peak flow rate, while the pulsatile flow was produced by splitting the cycle into one hundred separate values. The output of the flowmeter was used to verify that the waveform in the flow loop was of a satisfactory shape.
