Abstract

This paper examines the complex position of language in professional wrestling, a medium dominated by the visceral body and yet constantly interrupted by linguistic interventions from the wrestlers and the commentators. The audience also have a substantial role to play in this dynamic and yet it is in silence that the audience is able to make its most influential contribution.
