Abstract

The new semi-rigid diimine ligand, OpyNpy2, coordinates the toxic heavy metals ions Cd(II) and Hg(II) in a monohelical fashion, as established, in the former, by X-ray crystallography and, in both, by 1H NMR spectroscopy; ligand control is attributed to the helical topology of these complexes of stereochemically non-demanding ions. © 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd.
