Abstract

The paper ‘Am I the Art? An Analysis of the Relationship of the Live Artist to the Event’ was presented at the panel ‘Discomfort Women: Pushing Boundaries/Changing the Rules 2’ on 01st April 2005. This international conference was held at Brown University, Rhode Island, USA between 30th March and 03rd April 2005, and was sponsored by fourteen international bodies, including British Council, Canada Council for the Arts and Austrian Cultural Agency. The paper included a performative element and reflected research in the area of how the artist influences the event through physicality by bridging what Gunther Brus called the ‘life/art gap’. Discussion centred on the role of the artist as objectified embodiment of a concept, and the affects that this gave. This was centred on personal experience, and illustrated.
